About Chasing Truth (Eleanor Ames, #1):

When former con artist Eleanor Ames’s homecoming date commits suicide, she’s positive there’s something more going on. The more questions she asks, though, the more she crosses paths with Miles Beckett. He’s sexy, mysterious, arrogant…and he’s asking all the same questions.

Eleanor might not trust him – she doesn’t even like him – but they can’t keep their hands off of each other. Fighting the infuriating attraction is almost as hard as ignoring the fact that Miles isn’t telling her the truth…and that there’s a good chance he could be the killer.

MY THOUGHTS ON CHASING TRUTH:

Wow! What a ride! This book was super action packed and entertaining, never leaving me bored. I was able to finish it within a couple of days (I may or may not have ignored my school work to read this). Ellie is such an interesting and complex character, constantly fighting between who she used to be and who she wants to become. All the while she’s trying to figure out the truth about what happened to her friend Simon. She meets the ever brooding and mysterious Miles (*heart eyes*) who constantly gets on her nerves and shows up at the worst possible times during hr investigation. This book leaves you on the edge of your seat, constantly guessing what’s gonna happen next the whole time. I didn’t know what to expect by the end of this book and it left me shook! I gave Chasing Truth 5/5 stars!

About Hiding Lies (Eleanor Ames, #2):

At Holden Prep, dirty little secrets always have a way of coming to the surface.

Eleanor Ames has never been what she seems. Average high school student on the outside, but reformed con artist trying to break free of her past on the inside. When Eleanor receives startling news about someone from her previous criminal life, plans for a new operation coinciding with her school’s upcoming field trip quickly consume her.

But operations rarely go according to plan. And this is one her irresistible teen FBI agent boyfriend, Miles, would never approve of.

Now, more than just Ellie’s reputation is at stake. If she fails, it could be her life.

MY THOUGHTS ON HIDING LIES:

Holy s**t. It has been months since I’ve stayed up to finish a book in one day and man am I happy I chose to lose sleep over this one. Like wow! I loved the first book of this series (as you learned from above), and I knew I was gonna like this one but I didn’t think I was gonna like it as much as the first. I mean for starters, its shorter than the first. By like 200 pages. But in those 300 odd pages, mind-blowing things happen! This book packed a lot of punch. And, we got to see into Ellie’s life as a con artist helping her parents with their cons. I mean I cried for starters. Not because of Ellie’s family but because of Ellie and Miles together. And her family. It’s just all so beautiful! But Cross’s writing is so simplistic (in a really good way) making it easy for a reader to get immersed in the story written on the pages. I was able to read this book in one sitting (although my Goodreads says otherwise silly school taking my precious reading time away *shakes fist*). I seriously wasn’t expecting the outcome of the story at the end and maybe that makes me naive, but when I like a book or a series I don’t waste my time trying to guess the ending. I want to enjoy and be surprised even if the ending is easy to guess. I wasn’t expecting the ending for Hiding Lies despite the fact that it was right there in front of me the whole time! But I loved this work of fiction.

I’m also not sure if this sort of thing happens in real life (super heinous teenage spies undercover much?) but it’s such an interesting concept to think about and read in fiction that I will always be scoping those types of stories to read (Ally Carter also writes great books about teenage spies and con artists!). I gave Hiding Lie a 5/5 stars and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
